When to Treat Bone Fragility, 2010: FRAX® and Beyond

 

IBMS BoneKEy is proud to announce the third IBMS BoneKEy Online Forum to take place on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 from 12:00 noon to 1 PM EST.

 

The Online Forum is a free, live, online web conference (webinar) where a hot topic is presented by an expert in the field and a discussion by panelists follows. The presentation, including PowerPoint slides and accompanying audio, will be posted on IBMS BoneKEy as enduring material. Submit your questions LIVE to the experts during the Forum!

 

Expert Presenter:

John A. Kanis, M.D. (WHO Collaborating Centre for Metabolic Bone Diseases, University of Sheffield, UK)

A live 20 minute online presentation, complete with PowerPoint slides, followed by a 40 minute panel discussion that will:


  • Compare and contrast intervention thresholds in Europe and the US based on current guidelines for osteoporosis management in these regions
  • Discuss how to best determine intervention thresholds
  • Discuss which intervention threshold is the most appropriate at various ages
  • Discuss whether fracture probability according to FRAX® should override the T-score to determine whom to treat, including discussion of some practical cases where fracture probability according to the T-score and FRAX® might differ
  • Discuss the need to improve the FRAX® tool, and summarize ongoing development in this regard.
