Why Would You Join a Trial?

You might volunteer to participate in a trial for several reasons:
  • You may be suffering from osteoporosis and want to access the most recent and best treatments.
  • You may not know your bone status (it is the "silent disease") and would like to find that out.
  • You may be looking for excellent medical care and may not have insurance coverage.
  • The appeal might be that you have a loved one who has suffered from osteoporosis and you wish to help in the advancement of the science.

Although there are many reasons for entering a trial most of our patients enjoy the experience and are ready to do the next one when one is available.

What Can I Expect?
All of our trials include physicals and complete blood work. Most include a mammogram, an EKG and a bone density test. Many also include a complete gynecology examination and an ultrasound study to examine the uterus lining for any changes that might have occurred there. These are all done by professionals under the close supervision of our medical directors Dr. Schwartz and Dr. Kagan.

In addition to all of this good medical care you will have access to the study drug which in many cases is an already FDA approved for osteoporosis.
Compensation is given for travel expenses.

Studies vary in length from a few months to 5 years. The number of required visits to our Oakland office also varies but generally is every three months.
