Is there parking?
Street parking is available on 27th street and Valdez. There is also limited parking available in our parking lot on Valdez.

Is BART nearby?
FORE is located 8 blocks from the 19th street Downtown Oakland BART station and 14 blocks from MacArthur BART station. There is bus transportation from BART to 27th and Broadway. (the nearest cross street)

What are FORE’s hours of operation?
The research department hours are 7am to 5 pm M-F. The Foundation, however, is open from 8:30-5pm only. For early appointments your coordinator will be there to greet you!

Can my doctor know about my participation?
Yes! We encourage an open relationship between your physician and our study coordinator’s and physicians.

What should I do if I am interested in participating in a study?
Please fill out the APPLICANT SIGN-UP form. You will be contacted within 1 week of your submission.

Do I get paid for participating in a study?
Every study is different. On average a minimal stipend is paid to cover parking and/or transportation costs.

Does a bone density test hurt?
Unless you cannot lie on your back for up to 15 minutes without pain, a bone density test should be pain free!

Will I have to take a medication?
Most of our studies require that you take some type of medication. However, some studies are PLACEBO controlled so during your participation you may not be receiving an active study drug.

How much time is involved during study participation?
Study participation time varies for every study. A minimum visit of once per month for 12 weeks is a good example of a short study. Others can last for 5 years with visits once every 3 months. Generally, you will not have to come to FORE more than once per month.
