Amy Anderson, MBA, RN -
PRESIDENT
Amy Anderson has been a health care professional for more than 25 years, and is
currently affiliated with the John Muir/Mount Diablo Health System. She has an
extensive background in nursing and nutrition. In recent years, she has focused
on a career in the Information Technology arena. Ms. Anderson is a Registered
Nurse with a BA in Health Services Administration and received her MBA from
Golden Gate University.
Claude D. Arnaud, MD, FACE -
PRESIDENT, Medical & Scientific Advisory Board
Acclaimed Professor of Medicine and Physiology Emeritus at the University
of California, San Francisco, Dr. Arnaud previously held academic positions
with the University of Pennsylvania and Mayo Graduate School of Medicine.
Ancillary positions he holds currently include President and Director of the
Osteoporosis Institute in San Francisco, consultant to the biotechnology and
pharmaceutical industry, Board Member of the Buck Institute for Aging Research,
Director for the Center for Research on Aging at the San Francisco Institute on
Aging, and Chief of the Endocrine Unit at the Veterans Administration Medical
Center in San Francisco. He pioneered research on bone and mineral metabolism
and has been funded for decades by the National Institutes of Health and the
National Aeronautics and Space Administration. He has authored more than two
hundred scientific publications.
Gloria Cavaungh
Gloria Cavanaugh is the former President and CEO of the San Francisco based American Society on Aging (ASA), the largest professional association in the field of aging. Ms. Cavanaugh came to ASA in 1975 when the association was still the Western Gerontological Society (WGS). WGS, established in 1954, had existed for its first twenty years as an organization run entirely by volunteer leadership. Ms. Cavanaugh is currently the President of her own consulting practice, Gloria Cavanaugh Consulting. Two of her major clients are the San Francisco-based Institute on Aging where she is helping develop their professional education programming and AARP in Washington, DC where she is consulting with their offices on diversity & inclusion and workforce issues. She is a founding member, former Board Chair and current Board member of the National Alliance for Caregiving. She also serves as Vice Chair of the Board of The Jessie F. Richardson Foundation and is on the Board of the Foundation for Osteoporosis Research and Education (FORE) and Older Adults Care Management (OACM). She is also an Advisor to SmartSilvers Alliance and a Judge for the AARP Best Employers for Workers Over 50 Program. She was also a Delegate for the last four White House Conferences on Aging.
Pam Cocks, MPH -
Secretary
Pamela Cocks was born and raised in the Bay Area, attending college in southern California. She has experience as a health systems planner, research librarian, writer and editor. She holds a master of public health degree from U. C. Berkeley and a master of library science from Rutgers University. She serves on the Children’s Hospital Oakland Board of Directors and supports various political advocacy efforts for women and children. She is an enthusiastic gardener, fan of non-fiction, and fair-weather sailor.
Kathleen M. Cody -
Executive Director

Ms. Cody has over 35 years of executive management experience. At FORE, she has brought coalitions of individuals and agencies together to address important bone health issues. In 2003, FORE gathered over 100 individuals from the public and private sectors to develop a National Awareness Campaign for Older Women with funding from the US Administration on Aging. In 2004, FORE assembled the world’s leading scientists to address the bone health issues facing young female athletes. Most recently, FORE is embarking on a project to improve osteoporosis awareness and outreach in the Latino community. Ms. Cody has a Bachelors of Arts degree in Human Social Behavior from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and is an honors graduate of the University of San Francisco's Executive MBA program.
Marlene Cowan
Ms. Cowan's appreciation of fine art stretches around the Bay, as she is a
member of the Oakland Museum, San Francisco Fine Arts Museum, the San Francisco
Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) and a member of the East Bay Fine Arts Museum
Auxiliary. She was a past trustee at the Head-Royce School, and past president
of the Parent's Association of the Head-Royce School. Ms. Cowan previously
owned, developed and operated the Pasta Shop in Oakland. She is a founding
member of the Argonaut Investment Club, and serves as a current Co-President.
Joffa Dale -
Immediate Past President
Mr. Dale is retired from Safeway Inc. where he served as Senior Vice President, Finance. Previously, he was a manager at the CPA firm of Touche Ross & Co. (now Deloitte & Touche) 10 years. He currently serves as Chairman of The Youth Employment Partnership of Oakland, Trustee of the UC Berkeley Foundation and President of the Orinda Highlands Homeowners Association. Joffa has a BS and MBA from Cal Berkeley. He has also served on a number of not-for-profit boards of directors, including Oakland Ballet, Khadra Folk Ballet, Community Woodworks, Oakland Youthworks, Financial Executives Institute and Business Volunteers for the Arts.
Ellen Doerfer, RN
Ellen Doerfer, RN, BVE retired from nursing in 2001, and began volunteering in her senior community. With her own diagnosis of osteoporosis, and the difficulty in treating this silent disease, she became active with FORE, and helped develop their first chapter She has reached out into the community to increase awareness of what can be done to improve bone health.
Karen McGuinn -
Chair, Program Committee
Karen is a consummate and unrepentant volunteer for charitable and religious organizations. She has served on the Board of Directors of the Sojourn Chaplaincy at S.F. General Hospital, was co-founder and Chair of the Board of the San Francisco Nursing Home Ministry, member and secretary of the Board of the International Institute (SF), member and treasurer of the Board of the Docent Council at the Fine Arts Museum, and member of the vestry (board of directors) of two Bay Area Episcopal churches, including a 2-year term as Senior Warden (chair) of one of them. Of course, she served as chair or member of numerous committees of these organizations, as well as volunteering her time in other capacities for these and other organizations.
As a cancer survivor, she counsels other breast cancer patients at the Alta Bates/Summit Cancer Centers, and maintains a keen interest in women¹s health issues. Karen graduated from Dominican College in San Rafael, CA., and currently makes her home in Berkeley, CA with her husband and two wire hair Fox Terriers, Dante and Beatrice. She travels extensively, and formerly lived in Canada, England, France, Kuwait, and Washington, D.C.
Tom O'Malley -
Treasurer
Tom is Managing Director at Wells Capital Management and a Registered Investment Advisor headquartered in San Francisco. He lives in Oakland with his wife and four sons.
Linda Murphy, MPH -
Chair, Development Committee
Linda has a Masters of Public Health from the University of Michigan and a BA in economics from Reed College. Her focus is on health care finance. Besides working in the health insurance industry, Linda has served on the boards of Children's Hospital Oakland, Children's Hospital Research Center, Northern California Hospice Association and the Matilda Brown Home.
